Stay Spooked (stayspooked.com) is a family-run paranormal travel blog based in Gilbert, Arizona. This page explains what information we collect, why, who else is involved, and how to reach us about it. The short version: we collect very little, we don’t sell anything about you, and we don’t run ad trackers.

If You Just Read the Site

You can read everything on Stay Spooked without giving us any information. We don’t use advertising trackers or analytics cookies. Like every website, our web host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type, and the page requested) for security and troubleshooting. We also keep a list of web addresses that returned a “page not found” error so we can fix broken links; that list doesn’t include your name or email.

If You Subscribe to Our Newsletter

When you sign up, we collect your email address, the date, and the IP address you signed up from (kept as a record that you asked to subscribe). We send you a confirmation email first, and you’re only added after you click the link in it.

  • Our mailing list runs on our own email software on a server we control, not on a third-party newsletter service. Emails are delivered through Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES).
  • Our email software may record whether a newsletter was opened and which links were clicked, so we know what readers find useful.
  • We use your email only to send Stay Spooked emails. We never sell or rent our list.
  • Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

If You Contact Us

Our contact form collects your email address, your name if you give it, the topic you choose, your message, and the page you sent it from. Messages are stored on our website and emailed to us so we can reply. If you share a paranormal story and check the box saying it’s OK to share, we may feature it on the site, and we’ll ask you before using your name.

To block spam, the form briefly keeps a scrambled (one-way hashed) identifier based on your network, which expires automatically. We don’t store your raw IP address with your message. Sending a message never signs you up for our newsletter.

Affiliate Links and Third-Party Services

Some links on Stay Spooked are affiliate links to GhostStop (see our Affiliate Disclosure). If you click one, GhostStop may set a cookie to credit the sale to us. We also link to products on Amazon; those are ordinary links, and Amazon handles any visit under its own policies. A GhostStop banner on our blog posts is loaded from their affiliate partner, Refersion. Author profile images may load from Gravatar. These companies handle data under their own privacy policies.

Your Choices

You can ask us what information we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, including your newsletter record and any messages you’ve sent. Email spirit@stayspooked.com and we’ll take care of it.

Stay Spooked is written for a general audience and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If we change how we handle information, for example if we add website analytics or open our merch store, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
